“BB Cooper hearkens back to a time when names like Berlin, Rodgers or Bacharach were equal in importance to those of the band and the singer. There is no one else in the mainstream, or any stream for that matter, who is able to release albums comprised entirely of their own new music and have it performed as eloquently.”  Elliott Simon, All About Jazz

“Supreme dancers and musicians. It was very beautiful! All of them danced amazingly and Ondrej Brzobohat sang superbly”

“The touching story of La Bohëme still attracts today’s contemporary creators. A dancing company, ‘Prague City Dance Theatre’, has taken on La Bohëme and presented this show on the stage of the Karlin Theatre, where last year they presented a hugely successful premier of Ghetto 1577. This ballet of La Bohëme, with beautiful music by BB Cooper, was directed by choreographer and dancer, Pavel Strouhal, who has choreographed many other musicals; the conductor of the Athanor Orchestra was Martin Kumžák, who was also responsible for the orchestrations.”

Music by BB Cooper, orchestrations by Martin Kumžák, direction and choreography by Pavel Strouhal.  Presented at the Karlin Music Theatre, Prague.

BRONTË

Stage and Screen - Bronte

“A show that must surely have a future in the British musical culture. Life at Haworth Parsonage, with the Brontës dying at regular intervals, seemed an unlikely scenario for a good musical. And yet success has been achieved in a sympathetic and serene approach to the literary substance of the story through BB Cooper`s music and Peter Spafford’s well-written book and lyrics¦ Marc Urquhart directs this charming piece.” The Stage

“Passion and determination dominate the stage.. This musical captures the pioneering spirit of the Brontës…. passionately expressed in the music… finely tuned from beginning to end.’” Newark Advertiser

“A couple of the musical numbers convey the imaginative excitement of creative writing.” Birmingham Post

“This beguiling tale of bewitchment set in the distant kingdom of Ravenswood is certainly welcome in the midst of Cinderellas, Aladdins and Dick Whittingtons. It is refreshing to find a show inhabiting a more unfamiliar world. …captivatingly conjured.” Mark Shenton, The Stage

THE CHALLENGE

To launch the Mercury Workshop, twenty-eight writers came together to write this multi-collaborative musical about King Minos of Crete and the Minotaur, Daedalus and his son Icarus. Stephen Sondheim provided several leitmotifs for the writers to use to unite the score musically.

The show had a triumphant premiere at the Shaw Theatre in London on July 19th, 1992.

BB and Stephen Clark wrote the song “Love has got a sting in its tail” for the production.

The Financial Times wrote “….in every way it already surpasses dozens of musicals professionally presented in recent years on either side of the Atlantic”.

Directed by Steven Dexter and produced by Kenny Wax and Sacha Brooks (for the Mercury Workshop).
